1/6 Scale Captain Action as THE LONE RANGER 12" Action Figure (1998 Playing Mantis). This limited edition, original reproduction of Captain Action comes dressed in an authentic replica of his 1960's Lone Ranger costume, complete with mask, two-gun rig, cowboy hat and rifle. First released in 1966, Captain Action was the world's most versatile superhero. At the time of his debut, nine sets of costumes and masks were made so Captain Action could adopt the personas of popular heroes from television and comics. In 1966, a Lone Ranger mask and costume featuring a red shirt, was released. This red costume is attributed to the pre-television days of Lone Ranger lore. Later, a blue shirt version was released to tie-in to the television show's popularity. The Lone Ranger saga begins in the mid 1800's when Texas Ranger, John Reid, is the only one of six Rangers to survive an ambush. All others, including his brother Dan, are killed by the outlaws. Reid is found by Indian Brave, Tonto, who recognizes him from childhood. When his health returns, he vows to rid the west of evil. He dons a mask and assumes his new identity of the Lone Ranger. His trademark silver bullets symbolize truth and justice. Together with his faithful Indian companion, Tonto, they protect the innocent and bring criminals to justice.
